Invocation

From what I’m gathering so far I’m going to need:

- POLUtils

- DAT Editing Tools

- Photoshop

- A Hex Editor

- A bottle of potent grain alcohol

Still, this might be something I could actually do.  Hmm.

And the guy who was taking care of XI View has quit.

I would consider taking this project over if I had ANY IDEA how to modify status icons.  The fonts, icons beside your name (linkshell, bazaar etc) and general UI elements (macro palette etc) are all pretty simple, but the status icons are a whole other beast.

And the thing is I can’t really find any good info about them.  It seems like to this point (not sure if it’s different now) editing them had to be done primarily through hex because they were tiny bitmaps.  Now that they’re bigger, I’m not sure if that’s true.

I searched through brandson’s old livejournal, which led to one post on faranim’s old livejournal, which (along with some other info) suggested faranim had made an icon switcher program which was still being used until recently.  I’m going to make a wild guess that that’s just not going to work now that the size of the icons was increased.

I’ll keep looking though.  Playing with the default status icons is awful.  If you know anything I could use, let me know.  I’m going to fire up POLTools when I get home and see if I can make heads or tails of all this.

It was pretty good!

So I am, in fact, trying out FFXIV again.  Only I’m not sure what grand company I should join.  I think I’ve got it narrowed down to either Maelstrom or Immortal Flames.  I’d kind of like to do Maelstrom, but I’m not sure if that’s a great choice if everyone and their dog is a member of the Immortal Flames.  I like Immortal Flames too.  Twin Adder is right out unless someone gives me a good reason otherwise.

So, does it really matter which one I pick, or am I overthinking this?

Heck I’ll try it.  Maybe I’ll even get a chance to unlock Bard since my Archer was level 29 when I quit.

I think this might be the first time I’ve been interested in the prospect of playing Bard, ever.
